Welder gets a 78 -year -old prison to treat terrorist property

Kuala Lumpur: a welder was sentenced to a total of 78 years in prison by the High Court here after declaring himself guilty of 16 accusations of treating the ownership of two members of the Islamic State and in possession of videos relating to the terrorist group.

Judge Datuk Muhammad Jamil Hussin sentenced Rosdy Benjamin, 45 years old, to five years in prison for each of the 15 accusations of dealing with terrorist properties and three years in prison for the accusation of owning videos

However, he was ordered to serve all the sentences in prison from the arrest date on August 24, 2023.

When he delivered the sentence, judge Muhammad Jamil said he had taken into consideration the public interest and the serious nature of the crime committed.

“The Court must give a proportionate sentence to teach the accused a lesson so that he does not repeat the offense and as a lesson for others.

“I also take into consideration the request for guilt as it saves time and costs for all sides, as well as being the first infringement of the accused,” he said.

According to 15 accusations of dealing with terrorist properties, Rosdy was presumed to have allowed the deposit of RM63,450 in his Maybank account and therefore the withdrawal of RM62,801.06 from the account for the benefit of two members of the Islamic State group.

The offense was committed to Maybank Pusat Perdagangan, Pasir Gudang Branch, Johor Bahru, between March 1, 2015 and 3 June 2016.

The charge, pursuant to section 130Q (1) of the penal code, provides imprisonment for a maximum of 20 years or a fine and the forfeiture of any property involved.

He was also accused pursuant to section 130JB (1) (a) of the penal code with two videos relating to the Islamic State terrorist group on a mobile phone to Taman Science, Pasir Gudang, Johor Bahru, on August 24, 2023.

On the basis of the facts of the case, Rosdy was arrested by a team of the Bukit Aman anti -terrorism division of the special branch (E8) at 9.23 on 24 August 2023.

He was arrested to Taman Science, Pasir Gudang, on charges of involvement in the terrorist financing activities.

The results of the investigation discovered that they have managed the terrorist activities through 15 transactions from a Maybank account between 1 March 2015 and 3 June 2016 and subsequently through the services of an agent of remittance in money to two men involved in the Daesh group.

During the mitigation, Rosdy, who was not represented, said he had a wife, three children and parents to support. He also said he was his first offense and promised not to repeat him.
