Galesburg shoots police chief after requests for sexual harassment

Galesburg, Illinois (Kwqc) – After a two -week investigation, the Galesburg Russell Idle police chief was fired following accusations of sexual harassment.

The employee of the city Kelli Bennewitz said it was put on leave March 6th.

Deputy Chief Kevin will continue to act as chief of the police acting until a new one is appointed, according to the director of the city Eric Hanson.

I believe that it is in the best interest of the police department to go on with the new leadership and deputy chief Kevin Legate will continue to serve as the leader of the police actor until the appropriate trial and time sequence is determined to complete a complete search for the police chief.

Through the requests of Freedom of Information Act presented by KWQC, the documents show that complaints against the minimum again over the course of several years with an accident when he was captain.

“I dedicated myself to ensuring that the city of Galesburg and the Galesburg police department constantly exemplifies the highest level of professionalism in all aspects of our functioning,” said Hanson.

Idle was a member of the Galesburg police department for 30 years and heads since 2019.
