The Minister of Iceland who had a son with a teenager 30 years ago stops

Icelandic press agency Ruv broke the story, external Thursday evening.

Thórsdóttir revealed in an interview with them that she met the father, who made the name like Eirík ásmundsson, while working on the religious group Trú og líf (religion and life), which according to what reported had united due to a difficult domestic life.

He was 15 years old and she was 22 years old at the time of their meeting. Thórsdóttir gave birth to their son when they both had one more year.

Ruv reports that the relationship was secret, but that ásmundsson was present at the birth of his son and spent the first year with him.

However, the news agency writes this changed when Thórsdóttir met her current husband.

They report that they have seen the ásmundsson documents presented to the Icelandic Ministry of Justice who asked for access to his son, but that Thórsdóttir denied him, also requesting – and receiving – payments to maintain the children from him in the following 18 years.

A relative of ásmundsson tried twice to contact the Icelandic Prime Minister on the report last week.

Frostadóttir declared last night that when the woman revealed him involved a minister of the government, he asked for further information, which led to revelation and resignation.

In his television interview with Ruv last night, Thórsdóttir said he was shocked by the fact that the woman had contacted the prime minister.

“I understand … as it appears,” he said, adding that it is “very difficult to make the right story go through the news today”.

While the age of consent in Iceland is 15 years old, it is illegal to have sex with a person under the age of 18 years if you are their teacher or mentor, if they are financially dependent on you or work for you. The maximum sentence for this crime is three years in prison.

Although he resigned from his ministerial work, Thórsdottir said he had no intention of leaving Parliament.
