A Venezuelan mother was shocked after discovering that her son was one of the 238 people deported to the notorious prison by the administration of Donald Trump. MyRelis Casique Lopez was aware that his son, Francisco Jose Garcia Casique, was expelled for having illegally lived in the United States, but she thought he would return home. After waiting for it to come back, she was amazed to see him on the news. Francisco was sitting among the members of the Tren de Aragua band, who were transported to the confinement center of El Salvador’s terrorism. This band is involved in dangerous crimes. Myrelis recognized his son, who was handcuffed and surrounded by other men in uniform of the white prison.

MyRelis told the BBC that he is sure that his son is among the people held in prison, even if the authorities have not shared official names. He indicated a photo of a man sitting on the floor, with his head down, near other prisoners. He recognized him from his face features and a tattoo on the arm. Despite having seen the photo, MyRelis insists that his son is innocent.

Myrelis Casique Lopez said: “It does not belong to any criminal gang, neither in the United States nor in Venezuela, it is not a criminal. What was a barber. Unfortunately, he has tattoos that it is he, I would like him to be … he didn’t deserve to be transferred there.” Francisco Jose Garcia Casique left Venezuela in 2019 looking for better job opportunities. In September 2023, he entered the United States without legal authorization.

US immigration officials declared that the prisoners were carefully investigated and confirmed as members of the gang before being sent to El Salvador. They used surveillance, police reports and the testimonies of the victims as proof.

An official of the White House said that their goal was to remove dangerous people before they could damage others. However, many of them had no criminal record in the United States. They were transported according to an old law that does not require official accusations. Some deportees had criminal records for serious crimes such as murder, drug trafficking, kidnapping and management of illegal activities.

Sebastian, Francisco’s brother, explained that Francisco voluntarily surrendered and held for the first time in a migrant center. After being released, he has still been asked to check -in regularly. One day, when he was unable to reach the assigned court, he went to an ICE office to ask for a guide.

The agents noticed his tattoos, interrogated him and then took him into custody. He remained there for two months, between February and April 22, 2024
